Death wish coffee: It just might happen
Death Wish Coffee Co., based in Round Lake, N.Y., is recalling its 11 ounce Death Wish Nitro Cold Brew cans.
According to a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recall statement, "Death Wish in conjunction with an outside Process Authority has determined that the current process could lead to the growth and production of the deadly toxin, botulin, in low acid foods commercialized in reduced oxygen packaging."
Botulism, which is a potentially fatal form of food poisoning, is known to cause the following symptoms:
general weakness
dizziness
double-vision
trouble with speaking or swallowing
Difficulty in breathing, weakness of other muscles, abdominal distention and constipation may also be common symptoms. The FDA recall statement recommends that people experiencing these problems seek immediate medical attention.
Death Wish Coffee Co. is known for producing the "World's Strongest Coffee"
“Our customers’ safety is of paramount importance and Death Wish Coffee is taking this significant, proactive step to ensure that the highest quality, safest, and of course, strongest coffee products we produce are of industry-exceeding standards – thus we are taking this measure of recalling all Death Wish Nitro cans from shelves,” founder and owner of Death Wish Coffee Co., Mike Brown says.
According to Death Wish Coffe Co., the Nitro Cold Brew cans have been removed from their online store, and have been pulled from shelves at Price Chopper and Market 32, Healthy Living Market & Café, and independent retailers.
No illnesses have been reported, according to the FDA recall statement.
Death Wish Coffee Co. recommends that consumers who have purchased the Nitro Cold brew cans should not consume it, and can either dispose of it or return the product to the location with proof of purchase for a full refund.
