Murray wins Heisman Trophy over Tagovailoa, Haskins

Kyler Murray, the Oklahoma quarterback, who's planning to play professional baseball next year, was named the 2018 Heisman Trophy winner in Saturday's ceremony in New York, beating out fellow passers Tua Tagovailoa of Alabama and Dwayne Haskins of Ohio State.

Murray's victory makes Oklahoma the first school in history to have back-to-back Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks, following Baker Mayfield's win last season.

Tagovailoa was the clear front-runner for the award prior to the SEC title game against Georgia, where he had arguably his worst performance of the year, throwing just one touchdown with two interceptions before exiting due to injury in the fourth quarter.

Haskins also had a big title game performance, tearing through Northwestern's defense for almost 500 yards and five touchdowns. It would not be big enough.

1st-place votes: Kyler Murray 517, Tua Tagovailoa 299, Dwayne Haskins 46.

Murray secured a playoff spot for the Sooners with a win over Texas in the Big 12 championship game, totaling over 400 yards and three scores, finishing the season with 4,053 passing yards, 892 rushing yards, and 51 total touchdowns.

The 21-year-old Murray said, "as of now," that he'll pursue an MLB career. He was taken with the No. 9 overall pick in last year's draft by the Oakland Athletics.

Tagovailoa and Murray will face off in the College Football Playoff semifinals at the Capital One Orange Bowl on Dec. 29.
