Just two preseason games

July 1, 2020

NFL cutting 1st and 4th preseason game for 2020 season

The NFL and NFL Players Association have agreed to cut the 1st and last preseason game due to the COVID-19 crisis.

The move will allow a longer "ramp-up" period for players who may not arrive to training camp in the same type of physical condition they normally do because of workout restrictions. Additionally, medical experts would have more time to finalize game-day protocols for testing, equipment handling, locker room setups, and more.

The NFL has traditionally played a four-game preseason but is already on track to move to a three-game docket in 2021 when the new collective bargaining agreement takes effect.
