Cowboys release punter Chris Jones

The Cowboys have released punter Chris Jones just before 3 p.m. CT deadline on Wednesday.

The move clears $2 million in cap space and leaves $500,000 in dead money towards the 2021 salary cap.

Jones joined the team in 2011 and was the lone punter from 2013 through 2019. He had abdominal surgery last year, which opened the door for Hunter Niswander who averaged 47.2 yards per kick.

Jonesโ€™ averaged 44.5 yards per kick during his days with the Cowboys.
