Peter John Heidel, 57 (1962-2018)

Fisherman, Soccer Coach, Husband, Father

Peter John Heidel, of Sugar Land, TX, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 13, 2018, at the age of 57. He was a lung transplant survivor and gracefully battled years of cancer. His devotion to his family and strong faith in God supported him through his struggle and gave him peace as he returned to his heavenly home. Peter loved and lived every moment he was given, neither hard times nor cancer could rob him of his will to live and his love of Christ. Peter was born April 29, 1961, in Poughkeepsie, New York, and moved to Texas in 1979. He will be forever remembered by his loving wife of 34 years, Sheila, their sons, Brandon (Devon) and Cole, his parents Don and Anne, siblings Steve (Donna), Cathy (Roy) Johannessen, Don (Pam), Tom (Jennifer), Nancy Holley and Karen (Larry) Uresti, mother-in-law, Mary Donart, sibling-in-laws, Chris Donart, Lisa (James) Briers and Vince (Colleen) Donart, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Peter had four Godchildren, Amy Johannessen, Sarah Donart, Ethan Donart and Garrett Peterson.

Peter’s favorite sport was soccer, and he coached his two boys throughout their childhood. He would spend countless nights and weekends in the Texas heat supporting his boys. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and never missed a game. Peter was drawn to the water and loved to fish and boat with his family. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 11343 and the Catholic Men Called to be Saints. He made a connection with fellow lung transplant survivors through a bowling league and never missed a Tuesday night. Peter truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures and will be dearly missed by all.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, August 16, 2018, in the Chapel at Davis–Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. A vigil and rosary service will start at 6:30 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 17, 2018, at St Laurence Catholic Church in Sugar Land, TX with a brief reception to follow in the Parish Hall.

Memorial donations in memory of Peter can be made to Donate Life America (www.donatelife.net/contribute/).
